"Arizona's right to a full delegation, and the right of the residents of [Congressional District] 7 to representation from the person they recently voted for, are not up for debate and may not be delayed or used as leverage in negotiations about unrelated legislation,"

"as soon as she wants."
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes accuses House Speaker Mike Johnson of delaying the swearing-in of Adelita Grijalva and says she is prepared to sue to have Grijalva seated. Mayes called the delay a denial of Arizona's right to full representation and said residents of District 7 deserve the representative they voted for. Democrats allege Johnson and House Republicans are stalling to prevent Grijalva from being a potential decisive signatory in efforts to force a vote on releasing the so-called "Epstein files." Grijalva won a special election in a deep-blue Arizona district formerly represented by her late father, Rep. Raúl Grijalva. The House has remained out of session amid a government shutdown since October 1, which has left the Democratic caucus temporarily short of the votes needed to force certain actions.
