"One of the organizers of the letter is Damien Riehl, solutions champion at Clio, who lives in the Twin Cities where federal agents shot and killed Minneapolis resident Alex Pretti on Saturday. "History will judge us," Riehl said in an email. "Who is standing up for justice? Who is remaining silent?" Lawyers, Riehl said, have an obligation to uphold the rule of law and to use their voices to advance justice."
A number of legal technology leaders joined other legal professionals in an open letter supporting the rule of law. The letter emphasizes that lawyers, judges, and government officials take an oath to defend the Constitution and warns that constitutional rights and legal norms are being challenged. Organizers include Damien Riehl of Clio, who cited local violence and urged lawyers to speak up, and Kara Peterson of Descrybe.ai, who said legal tech depends on legitimacy. The letter links to a page for the full text and to add supporters' names. Organizers argue that ignoring the rule of law undermines both justice and legal technology.
