"Jazz was born from struggle and from a relentless insistence on freedom: freedom of thought, of expression, and of the full human voice."
"totally disagreed with the takeover by the Trump Administration at the Kennedy Center."
"the artists who are now canceling shows were booked by the previous far left leadership."
"Their actions prove that the previous team was more concerned about booking far left political activists rather than artists willing to perform for everyone regardless of their political beliefs,"
Several performers canceled scheduled shows at the Kennedy Center this week. The Cookers canceled two New Year’s Eve performances and released a statement invoking jazz’s origins and freedom. Billy Hart, the band’s drummer, said the center’s name change had "evidently" played a role in the decision. Doug Varone and Dancers canceled performances, saying the company "totally disagreed with the takeover by the Trump Administration at the Kennedy Center." Kennedy Center President Ric Grenell accused previous leadership of booking far-left political activists and defended current actions. Rep. Joyce Beatty filed a lawsuit seeking to block the renaming, and the center did not immediately confirm the number of cancellations.
