Dick Cheney died from complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. The White House press secretary said the White House is not yet involved in funeral planning, the president is aware of Cheney's passing, and flags have been lowered to half-staff under statutory law. Cheney's daughter Liz Cheney broke with Donald Trump after the January 6 Capitol riot, lost her seat in a 2022 primary, and both she and her father endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris last year. The elder Cheney called Trump a grave threat, accused him of trying to steal the last election, and urged citizens to defend the Constitution. Trump responded on Truth Social by calling Dick Cheney and his daughter "irrelevant RINO."
