JD Vance Roasts Dick Cheney Right After His Death
"The VP, during a conversation with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Wednesday at the Make America Healthy Again Summit in Washington, D.C., You know, the job of the vice president has been called the worst job in the country, Kennedy said. Vance chuckled and quipped, I think we're out of time, ladies and gentlemen. Kennedy continued, after the audience stopped laughing, saying he knew Lyndon B. Johnson felt sidelined by his uncle, John F. Kennedy, in the early '60s; he said Spiro Agnew and Gerald Ford felt the same way under Richard Nixon as well."
"But then there were others, like Cheney, Kennedy said, that seemed like they were running the country. Vance laughed at that comment before jumping in and saying, Not very well, it turns out. He let out a big laugh after that, and some in the audience joined in; others seemed to grumble. We agree on that, Kennedy added, before continuing on."
"Vance, a moment later, also mocked his predecessor, Kamala Harris. He said the job of VP is incredibly contingent upon the president they serve under. You can have a president who effectively just passes off big swathes of responsibility, you can have a president who delegates, [or] you can have a president who has no trust in their vice president, before fake caughing and saying Kamala Harris. That swipe drew a few more laughs from the crowd."
Vice President JD Vance mocked former Vice President Dick Cheney less than two weeks after Cheney's death while speaking with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at the Make America Healthy Again Summit in Washington, D.C. Kennedy noted the vice presidency has been called the worst job in the country, prompting Vance to quip, "I think we're out of time, ladies and gentlemen." Kennedy cited historical vice presidents who felt sidelined and contrasted them with figures like Cheney, and Vance responded that Cheney did not run the country very well. Audience reactions ranged from laughter to grumbling. Vance also targeted Kamala Harris by implying some presidents lack trust in their vice presidents.
