""The reality is that kids do stupid things, especially young boys," Vance, 41, said earlier Wednesday on The Charlie Kirk Show. "They tell edgy, offensive jokes. That's what kids do.""
""These weren't young boys," Hayes said. "They were career Republican political operatives in their mid twenties and mid thirties, otherwise known as adults or grownups or fully formed moral agents responsible for their actions.""
""The problem is this didn't happen in a vacuum," Hayes said."
Vice President JD Vance defended a set of leaked Young Republicans messages as "stupid things" that "young boys" say and described them as edgy, offensive jokes. The leaked chats contained praise for Hitler, threats referencing "gas chambers," and racist and homophobic slurs. Participants ranged from their early 20s to nearly 40, and several have lost jobs or leadership positions. Vance's defense generated outrage and criticism, including on MSNBC's All In With Chris Hayes, where guests called the defense emblematic of moral rot in the Trump-era Republican Party. Some Republican groups condemned the messages unequivocally while others rushed to excuse them.
