Immigration Agents Teargas Minneapolis Family's Car With 6 Kids Inside
"They stopped at my car, and they proceeded to yell in and said, 'Get out of here.' Well, they used profanity. And my husband screamed and said, 'We're trying,'"
"They said it again, and we said, 'We're trying, if you guys will move.' And of course, everybody saying what happened with Renee [Nicole Good], you know, we weren't going to pull off while they were right there. That's what we were trying to avoid,"
"Officers threw flash bangs and tear gas in my car,"
"Within seconds, there was a big boom and our car was up in the air and we slammed down, and all of our airbags deployed and all of our doors locked, And tear gas just started forming, a ball of gas just started forming around the car."
Shawn and Destiny Jackson and their six children, ages six months to 11 years, were driving home from a child's basketball practice when they encountered federal agents near demonstrations in their Minneapolis neighborhood. The couple believed the agents were part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and said agents repeatedly ordered them to move even though they could not safely pull away. Agents walked to the back of the vehicle and released devices underneath it. Flash-bang grenades and tear gas were thrown into the car, causing an explosion, deployment of airbags, locked doors, and a cloud of tear gas around the vehicle. The couple said agents were aware children were inside.
