The lawsuit filed on Monday by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and the city of Chicago officials came just hours after a federal judge in Oregon temporarily blocked Trump from sending the National Guard to the state's largest city, Portland."
"In a post on X, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker decried Trump's latest plan, which would involve federalising 300 of the state's National Guard troops and deploying another 400 from Texas, as unlawful and unconstitutional. Attorney General Raoul said US citizens should not live under the threat of occupation by the United States military, particularly for the reason that their city or state leadership has fallen out of a president's favor ."
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Chicago officials filed suit to prevent President Donald Trump from deploying the National Guard to the state. A federal judge in Oregon temporarily barred a separate plan to send Guard troops to Portland. The proposed federalisation would include 300 Illinois Guard troops and an additional 400 troops from Texas. Governor JB Pritzker labeled the plan unlawful and unconstitutional. Raoul warned that citizens should not live under the threat of military occupation when local leadership falls out of presidential favor. The administration has previously deployed Guard troops to Los Angeles and Washington, DC, and faced a ruling finding unlawful deployment in Los Angeles.
