ICE in court: Temporary order blocking mass detainment at 26 Federal Plaza extended amid uncertainty | amNewYork
"A judge's temporary restraining order preventing a large number of immigrants from being held in ICE detention on the 10th floor of 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan has been extended, but advocates and elected officials fear what will happen when the ruling finally expires. The immigration court at Fedearl Plaza continues to play host to a steady stream of emotional ICE arrests, including family separations that leave children weeping."
"City Comptroller Brad Lander, who has made visits to immigration court almost on a weekly basis, says that it appears that the Department of Homeland Security is abiding by the judge's order while also stating that even one detainment is too many. The numbers have been more like three or four in recent days three or four too many, but thankfully down from the numbers that we were seeing earlier, Lander said."
A temporary restraining order limiting the number of immigrants held on the 10th floor of 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan has been extended through Sept. 9. ICE arrests continue at the immigration court in Federal Plaza, producing emotional scenes and family separations that leave children weeping. Arrest numbers have slowed since a federal judge ordered improved facility conditions and reduced detentions, but arrests were still observed on Aug. 27 on the 12th floor, including agents confiscating paperwork to prevent a woman from leaving and masked men seizing a man in a stairwell. City Comptroller Brad Lander reports DHS appears to be complying, though any detainment is too many.
