ICE airs ads stirring up local frustration to recruit police for mass deportation efforts
"You took an oath to protect and serve, to keep your family, your city, safe,"
"But in sanctuary cities, you're ordered to stand down while dangerous illegals walk free."
"Attention, Miami law enforcement."
"join ICE and help us catch the worst of the worst. Drug traffickers. Gang members. Predators,"
ICE is spending millions on television advertising in select metropolitan areas to recruit local law enforcement into expanded immigration enforcement and deportation operations. The campaign targets officers frustrated by sanctuary city policies and encourages them to join ICE's effort to hire 10,000 deportation officers under a $30 billion initiative. The ads run in more than a dozen cities including Chicago, Seattle, Atlanta and Miami and open with city skyline footage and direct appeals to local officers. ICE is offering bonuses up to $50,000, tuition reimbursement and expedited hiring while pursuing a massive budget increase for immigration enforcement. The spending continues even as parts of the federal government faced a shutdown after Congress failed to pass a spending measure.
