Hundreds protest against ICE in S.F. after Minnesota killing
"Today, the violence of this fascist administration is rearing its ugly head, attacking our communities, and we must stand up,"
"All day I've been wishing I could do something,"
"I think no place is safe. And if we let it happen in Minneapolis, it'll happen here and happen anywhere,"
"So it's incumbent upon all of us as U.S. citizens to fight for the rights of everyone, even if we're not directly involved."
Several hundred people gathered at Embarcadero Plaza in San Francisco to express solidarity with Minnesotans after a federal agent shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti in Minneapolis. Pretti, an American intensive care nurse, was filmed being shot by a Border Patrol agent; the video circulated on social media. The shooting occurred amid widespread Twin Cities protests after Renee Nicole Good was shot in her car by an ICE officer on Jan. 7. Organizers called the rally through Bay Resistance, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and other groups. Speakers urged abolition of ICE, creation of local ICE response networks, and protesters marched downtown.
