Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), who died on March 13, in representing Arizona's 7th district when she is eventually sworn in. House Republicans are dragging their feet on letting Grijalva officially join their ranks and have been using the government shutdown as an excuse."
"Brooks, a former staunchly MAGA ally of President Donald Trump who backed his baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 election, has more recently become a very vocal critic of the president. The delays in swearing in Grijalva, wrote Brooks in his op-ed, represented [p]ure, raw, powerplay politics and a win at all cost' attitude that, ultimately, causes all Americans to lose."
Adelita Grijalva won a Sept. 23 special election 69% to 29% and will succeed her father, Raul Grijalva, in representing Arizona's 7th district when sworn in. House Republicans have delayed her swearing-in, citing the government shutdown as an excuse. Grijalva and supporters have suggested the delay aims to prevent her from becoming the 218th vote to release Epstein files. The Arizona Attorney General filed a lawsuit on Oct. 22 seeking to have her sworn in. Grijalva has used social media to update constituents and publicly urged Speaker Mike Johnson to complete the swearing-in process.
