"The House also approved on Wednesday a bill that would impose felony penalties of up to 10 years in prison on physicians who provide puberty blockers, hormone therapy, or surgical care to patients under 18 for the purpose of gender transition. The bill, introduced by Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, would also expose parents and others who consent to or help minors access that care to criminal liability."
The U.S. House passed legislation to prevent Medicaid from covering gender-affirming care for transgender youth by a 215-201 vote with four Democrats joining Republicans. The measure, introduced by Rep. Dan Crenshaw, now moves to the Senate where passage is uncertain. Separate House action approved a bill imposing felony penalties of up to 10 years for physicians who provide puberty blockers, hormone therapy, or surgical transition care to minors and exposing parents and others who help minors access such care to criminal liability. Multiple states already exclude trans-related care from Medicaid, and several national medical organizations oppose restrictions on gender-affirming care.
