"It's beneath [Graham] to say what he just said. He knows, as well as I do, there is no legal authorization for these strikes. There isn't, Himes started off by saying. He continued: If Lindsey Graham and other Republicans want to go the route of saying it's okay to kill people illegally, just so long as the American public supports it,' the American public needs to really think that through, you know? There will be a Democratic president someday."
"And all my MAGA friends who are cheering on these illegal killings need to imagine who gets killed when President Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that it doesn't matter what the law is, she's going to do what she's going to do. The congressman added that, because he works in Washington, D.C., he understands the complete abnegation of principle and thumbing of the nose at the rule of law."
"Chris Jansing played Himes a clip of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), earlier in the day, saying the majority of Americans support Trump killing suspected drug traffickers. I love this debate, Graham said. The president has all the authority in the world and if you want to fight over this, let's fight over this. I think most Americans are going to be with Trump."
Rep. Jim Himes condemned Republican comments endorsing President Trump’s killing of suspected Latin American drug traffickers and argued there is no legal authorization for the strikes. Himes called Sen. Lindsey Graham’s remarks beneath him and warned that normalizing illegal killings could lead to similar actions under a future Democratic president. Himes urged supporters of such strikes to imagine who might be targeted if the rule of law is disregarded. He said Washington shows abnegation of principle and a disregard for the rule of law. Some Latin American leaders, including Colombian President Gustavo Petro, also criticized the strikes.
