Genny Altwer announced a run for the open San Jose City Council District 9 seat as Vice Mayor Pam Foley terms out. Altwer is a lifelong District 9 resident with prior careers as a hostage negotiator and a therapist. Altwer emphasizes lived experience, community ties, and concrete priorities including cost-of-living relief, increased police staffing, and addressing the homeless crisis. Altwer filed a candidate intention statement and joins four other candidates who have also filed for District 9. District 9 covers southwest San Jose from Cambrian Park to Highway 87. The primary election will be June 2, 2026.
