Hilary Knight responds to Trump comment on women
"I thought it was sort of a distasteful joke and unfortunately that is overshadowing a lot of the success, the success of just women at the Olympics carrying for Team USA and having amazing gold-medal feats. We're just focusing on celebrating the women in our room, the extraordinary efforts, and continue to celebrate three gold medals in program history as well as the double gold for both men's and women's at the same time."
"I was looking forward to celebrating all great things that have come out of the Olympics and feeling the love and support and getting back in our respective communities and sharing this journey with them. And that's what this is all about."
During the men's team celebration in Milan, President Trump made a comment about inviting the women's team to Washington, joking he would be impeached if he didn't include them. Olympic gold medalist Hilary Knight called the remark a distasteful joke that detracts from celebrating women's extraordinary achievements and three gold medals in program history. Knight emphasized focusing on the women's accomplishments and the double gold medals won by both men's and women's teams simultaneously. She expressed interest in celebrating Olympic successes and sharing the journey with communities. Male players, including Jack Hughes, acknowledged their close relationship with the women's team during the Olympic Village experience.
