Here's how Boston's elections will change after last year's problems
"This upgrade will speed up the check-in process and enhance communication with the Election Department,"
"The voting process for voters remains the same: you will check in with a poll worker, receive a paper ballot, mark your vote, and cast it as usual."
"insulating the process"
"is not accusing (Boston Mayor Michelle Wu) of anything."
Boston's election department will implement Election Day changes ahead of the Sept. 9 mayoral and city council preliminary to ensure smoother voting across 275 precincts. Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin ordered an overhaul after an investigation found insufficient ballots and serious communications failures during last November's election, which required emergency deliveries by police. A designee was appointed in February to oversee the process through 2026. A clerical error in August sent at least one voter more than one mail-in ballot, but officials confirmed no voter can cast two ballots in the upcoming preliminary. Poll Pads, used in early voting since 2016, will be expanded to all precincts to speed check-in and enhance communication while voters continue to use paper ballots.
