Bovino appeared to relish his role and participated in Border Patrol operations across the U.S. However, his downfall came in Minneapolis on the heels of two fatal shootings of U.S. citizens, the latter of which involved a Border Patrol agent, who shot Alex Pretti."

Bovino had been the public face of President Donald Trump's immigration enforcement and participated in Border Patrol operations across the U.S. His reassignment followed two fatal Minneapolis shootings, the latter involving Border Patrol agent Alex Pretti, who was tackled, disarmed and shot ten times. Homeland Security disputed that Bovino had been relieved of his duties.
