Gov. Wes Moore publicly criticized President Donald Trump for making repeated false statements about Baltimore and for focusing on Moore's appearance. Trump asserted that Moore called him "the greatest president of my lifetime," and persisted with that claim despite videotape evidence showing otherwise. The videotape records Trump inviting Moore to join him and Moore responding, "Nah, I'm good." Moore emphasized that when he became governor, Baltimore averaged about one homicide per day in 2022, and that in the following two and a half years Maryland saw among the fastest drops in violent crime nationally. Moore characterized the behavior as obsessive and untruthful.
