Gov. Hochul allows bars to open early for U.S. gold medal hockey game. But not in NYC
"Gov. Kathy Hochul said she wants all New Yorkers to be able to get together to cheer on Team USA in the men's hockey final at the Olympics, so she's allowed bars and restaurants to open early just for the occasion. Just not for New York City. Or anywhere under the state of emergency she declared on Saturday ahead of the storm. The governor said in a statement that she is suspending alcohol service hours enforcement on Sunday between the hours of 6 a.m.-10 a.m."
""I still remember watching the 1980 game as a college student at Syracuse University, working in a pizza shop. The whole place stopped and watched together. I hope a new generation of New Yorkers gets that same moment tomorrow," Hochul said in the statement. However, it does not apply to any bars or restaurants in areas that are under the state of emergency. That includes NYC, Long Island, the Hudson Valley."
Alcohol service hours enforcement in New York was suspended Sunday between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. to allow bars and restaurants to open early and serve alcohol for watch parties during the U.S.-Canada men's Olympic hockey final. The suspension is not in effect in areas under a declared state of emergency, including New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley. The exclusion reflects safety concerns tied to a rapidly intensifying nor'easter and aims to keep people in impacted communities safe and off the roads. The U.S. men's hockey game is scheduled to begin at 8:10 a.m.
