GOP candidates weigh in on transgender athlete controversy raised on South Shore
"In that top eight was a biological male,"
"When a female cannot be noticed by colleges, they cannot be recruited, they cannot receive college scholarships, and their dreams are crushed,"
"These Pembroke female athletes, ... they are not getting their medals, and they are not getting their college opportunities,"
"Too bad this MA Mom's plea for basic fairness for her daughter and other female athletes falls on deaf ears when it comes to @SenMarkey."
A Pembroke mother said her daughter placed ninth in a track meet after a biological male finished among the top eight and advanced to the finals. The mother said the result could have cost her daughter visibility for college recruitment and scholarships and asked the school committee to change policies to prioritize biological sex and petition the state athletic association. A video clip of her remarks drew widespread social media attention. Several Massachusetts Republican candidates, including a U.S. Senate hopeful, shared the clip and expressed public support for the mother's call for perceived fairness in girls' sports.
