FAA intends to reduce airline flights by up to 10 percent at 40 of the nation's busiest airports, phased over several days with 4 percent on Friday, 5 percent on Saturday, 6 percent on Sunday, and 10 percent next week. Cirium reported 739 cancellations as of 7 a.m., equaling 3 percent of Friday's schedule; reductions could reach about 4,000 daily cancellations if goals are met. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned of mass delays, cancellations, and possible partial airspace closures due to absent air-traffic controllers. October's lighter travel demand has limited disruptions so far, but Thanksgiving travel could produce widespread chaos.
