An attorney warned that President Donald Trump is profoundly dangerous and compared his behavior to historical authoritarian leaders, saying the United States is exhibiting authoritarianism. The attorney appeared near John Bolton's Maryland home as the FBI executed a search reportedly connected to classified documents. Bolton is a former national security adviser and a frequent critic of Trump. Vice President JD Vance’s repeated use of "we" when discussing the Justice Department probe raised concerns that the White House is directly involved. The attorney cautioned that Trump’s retribution could extend beyond critics and that supporters also risk becoming targets.
This is not America. This is not healthy. This is, and I hate, you know, people don't want to reach this conclusion, this is authoritarianism. We have never seen anything like this in America. Everybody else in the entire world I traveled to Europe twice this year, people were watching out there because they understand history. And they're seeing in America things that happened.
Anyone, he added, could face Trump's retribution next. For those people out there who support the president and say, well, I just don't like those people either, and they want to get the president well, the president actually launched a coup and stole classified documents, so let's leave that aside for those people, it's like, you could be next, he said. We could all be next!
