"The Trump Kennedy Center"
"construction, revitalisation, and complete rebuilding."
"tired, broken, and dilapidated,"
"I am grateful for President Trump's visionary leadership,"
Donald Trump announced that the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will close for two years beginning in July for "construction, revitalisation, and complete rebuilding." The building was labeled "tired, broken, and dilapidated." The center was rebranded as "The Trump Kennedy Center." Ric Grenell, appointed president of the Kennedy Center, expressed gratitude for the closure and praised Trump's "visionary leadership," noting a $257M congressional appropriation for deferred maintenance. The administration's takeover followed efforts to stop LGBTQ+-inclusive programming, prompting many major artists to cancel performances. The closure could overlap the nation's 250th anniversary and much of a second presidential term.
