In January 2025 the official White House website was converted into a personal blog and resources on topics from reproductive rights to Navajo code talkers were deleted. In February the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, dismantled roughly half a dozen federal digital design agencies, causing hundreds of job losses and crippling teams that built projects like healthcare.gov and the free COVID-19 test ordering site. In August Joe Gebbia was appointed the first chief design officer to lead America by Design and opened the National Design Studio to improve how Americans experience government online and in person, emphasizing user experience and faster page loads.
