""They may have won this race, but we have changed the narrative about what kind of city Minneapolis can be," he said. "Because now, truly affordable housing, workers' rights, and public safety rooted in care are no longer side conversations; they are at the center of the narrative. Thank you, Minneapolis! While this wasn't the outcome we wanted, I am incredibly grateful to every single person who supported our grassroots campaign. ""What is being pushed by the corporate wing of the party is increasingly unattractive to voters," said an organizer."
City election officials declared Jacob Frey the winner after tabulating second- and subsequent-choice votes in Minneapolis's ranked-choice voting system. Frey received 42% of first-choice votes, Omar Fateh received 32%, DeWayne Davis 14%, and Jazz Hampton 10%. The second-round counting provided Frey enough support to secure a third term as mayor. Omar Fateh, a Democratic state senator and son of Somali immigrants, congratulated Frey and said affordable housing, workers' rights, and public safety rooted in care are now central priorities. Frey pledged to work tirelessly through his remaining time as mayor to make the city a place where everyone can build a brilliant life.
