"That's exactly what the federal officers in Washington, D.C., what our ICE Law enforcement, CBP officers are bringing to American streets every single day. And this is as they're facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them. And it gets even worse than throwing a sandwich. We're seeing terrorist attacks against them, people shooting at them, rocks being pummeled at them."
"On her show, Saturday in America, McEnany asked Tricia McLaughlin, assistant Department of Homeland Security secretary for public affairs, What message does that send when you can just throw sandwiches at CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) officials? What an embarrassment! McLaughlin exclaimed. Can you imagine assaulting a federal officer and then getting up, grandstanding, wagging your finger at the American public?"
Sean Dunn, who threw a subway sandwich at an ICE agent, was acquitted by a jury of a misdemeanor assault charge after the administration failed to secure a felony indictment. Dunn said he was protecting immigrants' rights, declaring every life matters and people have the right to live free. Kayleigh McEnany pressed DHS official Tricia McLaughlin about the acquittal, calling it an embarrassment and questioning its message. McLaughlin condemned the act, emphasized federal officers' role in public safety, cited a claimed 1000% increase in assaults, and warned that violent attacks beyond sandwich-throwing endanger law enforcement. Attorney General Pam Bondi and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro had pledged to make an example of Dunn.
