And that's-, the other side of that is that Trump can turn out voters, but they turn out for him, and everything I think we've seen tonight suggests that when he's not on the ballot even if he's trying to influence the ballots, if these not on there himself, his voters are much less interested than they might otherwise be."
Democratic wins in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City reflected voter resistance to Donald Trump. Polling cited roughly seventy percent of votes for Democrats motivated by resisting Trump. Mikie Sherrill's campaign reported Trump's influence as a major factor. Trump retains the ability to mobilize supporters, but turnout drops when he is not on the ballot. Republican leaders must consider how the party performs without Trump on future ballots, particularly in upcoming midterm elections when his name may not appear but his administration's performance will matter.
