Former NFL player Jack Brewer advocated for the reinstatement of corporal punishment in schools as a solution to juvenile crime. He claimed that parents of troubled children need to be held accountable and emphasized broken families as a key issue. Brewer suggested that discipline in schools had diminished since corporal punishment was abolished. He attributed some of the problems facing youth today to a lack of religious engagement and negative influences from music and movies. He highlighted that crime is dealt with differently in some states, citing Florida as an example.
Brewer claimed the problem can be solved with beatings from school employees. These parents need to be held accountable, Brewer said. Every single one of these kids that's out there terrorizing the streets has a parent that needs to be held accountable.
Brewer responded: It starts locally. First off, in these schools, these schools have to start back disciplining kids. They took the paddle out of the school, and everything collapsed.
Brewer went on to blame music and movies that kids today take into their spirit. None of these kids go to church on Sunday morning, he lamented. These kids don't have a fear of God.
