Jonathan Kott, former communications director for Senator Joe Manchin, appeared on Fox News to push back against criticism of the DNC's land acknowledgement and to contrast it with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s claims linking gun violence to vaccines or antidepressants. The DNC opened its annual meeting in Minneapolis with Lindy Sowmick stating the Dakota people were the city's original stewards. Fox aired a clip of James Carville saying the DNC does not exist to right wrongs. Kott agreed the acknowledgement was silly but argued it was less destructive and preferable behind closed doors than RFK Jr.'s public assertions.
The DNC's annual meeting began in Minneapolis on Monday with a statement from Lindy Sowmick, a self-described Indigenous queer woman, saying the Dakota people were the original stewards of the Minnesota city. Fox's Mike Emanuel played Kott a clip of Democratic strategist James Carville torching the practice, saying, The DNC does not exist to right wrongs.
JONATHAN KOTT: He is right. The DNC exists to win elections. That's all they should be doing. And yes, this was silly. And, you know, how many things they want to announce before they introduce themselves is silly. It's not as destructive as RFK going out there and saying gun violence is because of vaccines or drugs kids are taking. So I think if you want to compare the two fringes, I'm okay with them saying this behind a closed door. I am not okay with RFK doing that.
