"Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum pressed New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani on his stated desire to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, questioning the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist on what grounds he would arrest Netanyahu during an interview on Wednesday afternoon. Mamdani, after failing to point out which American law he would arrest Netanyahu for violating, said he would exhaust every legal option in front of me, not make new laws to do so."
"As it has, for Vladimir Putin, I've said that I believe we should uphold arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court, and that we should do so, only in abiding with all of the laws in front of us. I'm not going to make a new law to ensure that we can actually do this, Mamdani responded. MacCallum then asked Mamdani if he believed NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch would go along with his plan."
A New York City mayoral frontrunner pledged to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he came to the city, describing him as a war criminal who has directed a genocide in Gaza. The frontrunner did not identify a specific U.S. law that would permit such an arrest and said new legislation would not be created to enable it. He said existing legal avenues would be exhausted and expressed support for upholding International Criminal Court arrest warrants while stressing adherence to U.S. law. He also expressed appreciation for the NYC police commissioner and said all options would be pursued to act on an arrest warrant.
