"There is certainly, you know, retribution involved. There's certainly an abandonment of traditional norms at the Justice Department in going back and doing this. Typically, in a situation where somebody has written a book that gets close to the line or goes over the line on classified information, you know, there are there's anxiety, there's name-calling, there's a bunch of bad press, but it's rare, if ever, that anybody gets prosecuted under those circumstances because the pre-review process is heavily weighted against classified information getting"
Ty Cobb said he locked his door after learning of the FBI raid on John Bolton and indicated that critics of President Donald Trump have justifiable paranoia. Cobb noted that even former White House staffers may feel unsafe and cautioned against overreacting to Bolton's search. He asserted that retribution and an abandonment of traditional Justice Department norms are possible. Cobb explained that pre-publication review is normally weighted to prevent classified disclosures and recalled that Bolton submitted his manuscript for review, sued to enforce the process, and received court authorization to publish. Cobb acknowledged the FBI might find documents it deems classified.
