A 75-year-old man from Cuba died in ICE custody, despite having turned his life around after a past marijuana conviction 40 years ago. This incident marks the fifth death in ICE custody in Florida this year. Ken Cuccinelli, a former Trump administration official, acknowledged the inevitability of death, particularly among elderly detainees. He noted that while there is a medical review process for long-term detention, predicting individual health outcomes remains challenging. Cuccinelli suggested minimizing the detention duration as a potential solution to avoid such incidents.
Ken Cuccinelli stated, "Nobody wants people to die, but we're all going to, and, you know, we're literally talking about a population of 10 to 20 million illegal aliens..."
Cuccinelli emphasized, "A better approach for ICE is to minimize the touch time for these folks. So from the point you pick them up to the point you deliver them home, you want to minimize those numbers of days."
