Follow the money in San Jose's City Council races - San Jose Spotlight
"“I'm honored to have received support from so many of my neighbors,” Altwer told San José Spotlight."
"“City Hall insiders haven't delivered for our communities, and this support clearly shows that our neighbors have had enough.”"
"“Our campaign is building real momentum, and you can feel it across the district,” Hughes told San José Spotlight."
"“After years of working side by side with this community to tackle complex challenges, that experience is proving to be a real strength.”"
Elections are scheduled in San Jose's odd-numbered districts 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, with the March 6 candidate filing deadline ahead of June primaries. District 9 is the only open seat because Vice Mayor Pam Foley is term-limited. Early campaign filings through Dec. 31 show candidates have raised tens of thousands of dollars across the five districts. Genny Altwer has raised $71,719, including a $15,000 personal loan. Scott Hughes has raised $41,539. Mike Hennessy has raised $23,675 and received an endorsement from state Sen. Dave Cortese. Gordon Chester has raised $2,835. Incumbents in four districts are running for reelection and raising funds to fend off challengers.
