Florida paints over Pulse shooting rainbow memorial crossing
Briefly

State officials removed the rainbow crosswalk outside the abandoned Pulse nightclub in Orlando under a directive attributed to the Trump administration on 20 August. The crossing was created to honor the 49 victims of the 2016 Pulse mass shooting, the deadliest in US history. Locals recoloured the crossing with chalk on 22 August, but the Florida Department of Transportation repainted it black and white on 24 August. Transportation officials and Orlando police now guard the crosswalk around the clock to prevent recolouring. The Transportation Department cited roadway safety and the need to avoid using roads for political or ideological purposes. Governor Ron DeSantis defended the removal.
More officers babysitting the crosswalk than there were security guards watching the front door of Pulse the night 49 people were murdered. By a lot.

We will not allow our state roads to be commandeered for political purposes.
