First, Colbert, now 'The View': Trump's FCC opens equal time investigation into political chat show | Fortune
"The FCC has not been presented with any evidence that the interview portion of any late night or daytime television talk show program on air presently would qualify for the bona fide news exemption,"
"The FCC has an enforcement action underway on that,"
"And we're taking a look at it."
The Federal Communications Commission is investigating ABC's The View for possible violations of the equal-time requirement, according to Chairman Brendan Carr. Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico appeared on The View on Feb. 2, and U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, his opponent, has also appeared on the program. The FCC issued new guidance in January requiring late-night and daytime hosts to give political candidates equal time, while listing exceptions for newscasts, bona fide interviews, and live events or documentaries. The agency stated it has not been presented with evidence that interview portions of talk shows qualify for the bona fide news exemption. The Trump administration has sought stricter enforcement of talk-show coverage viewed as motivated by partisan purposes, and late-night booking decisions have been altered amid equal-time concerns.
