Farmworker Dead and More Than 300 More Detained in California ICE Raid
Briefly

Camarillo, California experienced an immigration raid leading to a standoff between protesters and federal agents. The agents utilized military-style vehicles, blockading roads and deploying tear gas on community members, including children, trying to protect farmworkers from detainment. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed over 300 immigrant detentions took place during these raids on cannabis farms and agricultural sites. Tragically, one farmworker, Jaime Alanís, fell from a greenhouse roof and later died, marking a significant moment in immigration enforcement under the current administration.
"It was almost unlike anything that we had ever seen before," says Angelmarie Taylor, a student and volunteer with 805 Immigrant Coalition who was present during the raid in Camarillo.
"We're talking about human beings. We're talking about parents, just like the gentleman that passed because of the chaotic actions of ICE," says Luis McArthur, mayor of nearby Oxnard.
