Derek Dooley announced his candidacy for the 2026 Republican Senate seat in Georgia, positioning himself against incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff. Supported by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Dooley aims to present himself as a political outsider and emphasizes leadership change in Georgia. In a launch video, he criticized current politicians, citing issues like inflation and border lawlessness. Although he has no prior election experience, Dooley pledges to advocate for traditional Georgia values and work alongside President Trump in his campaign to unseat Ossoff.
Dooley said in a launch video, "Professional politicians like Jon Ossoff are the problem. Lawlessness, open season on the border, inflation everywhere, woke stuff, that's what they represent. We need new leadership in Georgia. That's why I'm running for Senate."
Dooley pledges to bring 'good, old fashioned Georgia common sense,' and to 'work with President Trump, fight for you and always put Georgia first.'
Dooley has been endorsed by Gov. Brian Kemp, who decided against running for the Senate seat himself, emphasizing the Republican focus on defeating Jon Ossoff.
Despite being seen as a failure during his coaching tenure at Tennessee, Dooley aims to campaign as a political outsider without previous elective office experience.
