Leshon Eugene Johnson, a former NFL player, was convicted on six felony counts related to a large-scale dogfighting operation. Johnson operated Mal Kant Kennels in Oklahoma, breeding champion pit bull-type dogs for fighting. Authorities seized 190 dogs from his property earlier this year, and Johnson profited from breeding and trafficking these dogs across the U.S. Johnson faces up to five years in prison and substantial fines. His attorney argued that the jury acquitted Johnson on 17 counts and that he was primarily a dog breeder, not a fighter.
