Elon Musk calls Trump official a 'dummy' amid spat over NASA leadership
"The missive came in response to a report from The Wall Street Journal about a "power struggle" over who will permanently lead the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, which Duffy has been leading on an acting basis since July. According to the Journal, Jared Isaacman - a Musk ally who was previously nominated by Trump to lead the agency - is continuing to jockey behind the scenes for the role, despite his nomination being withdrawn in July."
"Isaacman, Musk, the Department of Transportation, and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In another post on Tuesday, Musk polled his followers on whether "someone whose biggest claim to fame is climbing trees" should be "running America's space program." It was an apparent reference to the fact that Duffy, a former Wisconsin congressman, was once a world champion speed climber."
Elon Musk publicly called Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy "Sean Dummy is trying to kill NASA!" on X following reporting of a power struggle over who will permanently lead NASA. Duffy has served as acting administrator since July. Jared Isaacman, a Musk ally and founder of Shift4 who helped fund and lead multiple SpaceX launches, continues to jockey for the role despite his nomination being withdrawn in July. Trump called Isaacman a "blue blooded Democrat," and Isaacman said he was a "good target" in the "whole divorce" between Musk and Trump. Musk also polled followers about Duffy's speed-climbing background. One day earlier, Duffy said SpaceX was "behind schedule" on a NASA contract.
