Donald Trump has threatened legal action against the BBC, accusing the broadcaster of defrauding the public by splicing parts of his 6 January 2021 speech in a Panorama episode. The BBC apologised and concluded the edit gave the impression of a direct call for violent action. The apology preceded the resignations of director-general Tim Davie and head of BBC News Deborah Turness. The legal threat was filed in a Florida court with a response deadline, and Trump has said he feels obliged to pursue the case. Legal experts questioned the likelihood of success under Florida law and availability issues.
