President Trump met separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky amid Russia's ongoing war of aggression. Trump hosted Putin in Alaska for private talks about a possible end to the war and later hosted Zelensky and other European leaders at the White House in a cordial meeting. The president said he will decide within two weeks whether to pursue massive sanctions, massive tariffs, both, or take no action, and said he wants Putin and Zelensky to meet to try to forge a resolution.
I'm gonna make a decision as to what we do, the president said. And it's gonna be it's going to be a very important decision. And that's whether or not it's massive sanctions or massive tariffs or both. Or do we do nothing and say, It's your fight'?
I'll see whose fault it is, the president responded. If there are reasons why, I'll understand that. I know exactly what I'm doing. We're gonna see whether or not they have a meeting. That'll be interesting to see. And if they don't, why didn't they have a meeting? Because I told them to have a meeting. But I'll know in two weeks what I'm gonna do.
We didn't get there.
