DOJ sues NYC over sanctuary city policies - UPI.com
Briefly

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against New York City, challenging its sanctuary city policies as violations of the Supremacy Clause. The suit argues that New York's policies lead to the release of criminals, compromising public safety. Opponents of sanctuary cities assert that these policies hinder federal immigration enforcement, while proponents, including the American Immigration Council, argue that they foster trust between communities and law enforcement. The New York City Council asserts that cities with sanctuary laws actually experience higher safety levels due to increased community cooperation.
"New York City has released thousands of criminals on the streets to commit violent crimes against law-abiding citizens due to sanctuary city policies," Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement.
"New York City has long been at the vanguard of interfering with enforcing this country's immigration laws," federal prosecutors said in the lawsuit Thursday.
"Cities with sanctuary laws are safer than those without them. When residents feel comfortable reporting crime and cooperating with local law enforcement, we are all safer," the city council stated.
