There's nothing wrong with exercising their Amendment rights to record, but when you start interfering, that's tough."

Earlier in the interview, Perez said Americans now have the ability go back and review every clip of the shooting. But he said the agents involved in the shooting have to make decisions in milliseconds and that it is really tough to blame the officer or the agents involved in this."

Perez said unknown factors and lack of on-scene context make judgments difficult and that interfering with an ongoing law enforcement investigation is unacceptable, though recording is a protected right. Perez emphasized that agents must make split-second decisions and that blaming them is difficult. He rejected Tommy Vietor’s characterization of agents as untrained thugs, saying he has no respect for Vietor and that Border Patrol has some of the best law enforcement training. Perez is an active agent with about 30 years of service.
