State Auditor Diana DiZoglio has hired a law firm to pursue litigation against the Massachusetts Legislature, citing their refusal to comply with an audit mandated by a voter-approved measure. DiZoglio has criticized the Legislature's lack of transparency and accused attorney general Andrea Campbell of not supporting her case, calling the situation antidemocratic. The Legislature has resisted participating in the audit process, prompting DiZoglio to express concerns about governmental authoritarianism in Massachusetts. She emphasizes the need for judicial intervention to uphold constitutional rights regarding the audit.
"We talk about authoritarian regimes in DC. What about here on Beacon Hill? There is an authoritarian regime in the legislature on Beacon Hill right now," she said.
"It is a dictatorial style of government. It is not democratic. It is, in fact, antidemocratic," DiZoglio continued.
"We're just trying to get before a court right now, and we can't even get our constitutional right to get an impartial hearing recognized by the top law enforcement agency of this Commonwealth."
"I believe that she would prefer that we didn't have access to court," DiZoglio said, referring to AG Campbell.
