DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin responded to California Governor Gavin Newsom amid a social media clash initiated by a fatal highway accident involving an illegal migrant driver. Three fatalities occurred when a minivan collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant. Following this, McLaughlin criticized Newsom for blaming the federal government for Singh's licensing status. McLaughlin clarified that Singh's work authorization had been rejected under the Trump Administration but later approved under Biden, and emphasized the role of California in issuing commercial driver’s licenses without a national standard.
Harjinder Singh is in the U.S. illegally and his work authorization was rejected under the Trump Administration on September 14, 2020. It was approved under the Biden Administration June 9, 2021.
As usual, the Trump Administration is either lying or clueless.
There is no national CDL. The state of California issues Commercial Drivers Licenses.
McLaughlin and DHS honcho Kristi Noem seized on the opportunity to rip Newsom and the state of California.
