Ron DeSantis announced efforts to audit local governments for wasteful spending, beginning with Broward County. This initiative, supported by the new chief financial officer Blaise Ingoglia, aims to scrutinize governments where complaints about spending practices have been prevalent. DeSantis mentioned that Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties might also be targeted. Starting July 31, state teams will conduct onsite inspections and audits at various jurisdictions to identify areas for improvement, particularly in initiatives related to diversity, equity, and environmental measures.
"We are pleased to really hit the ground running. It's off to the races. I think there's problems in local governments. Some local governments have done a good job."
"We're here in Broward County and I think most people know there's some criticism of how the county government has operated."
