Smith had told Congress in a closed-door session earlier that he had proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the president conspired to overturn the 2020 election and expressed willingness to testify publicly. Trump posted on Truth Social accusing Smith of destroying lives and committing perjury. Smith led investigations into the Jan. 6 Capitol riots and classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Smith said he expected the Trump Department of Justice to try to indict him and that he would not be intimidated. Trump continued to claim the 2020 election was rigged, including at Davos.
