Counter-protesters shouting 'free Palestine' clashed with demonstrators near the Houses of Parliament, leading to police removing activists. Some protestors displayed hostile behaviors, including one incident of aggression. A rally organized by Stop The Hate UK called for the UK Prime Minister to advocate for the release of hostages still held by Hamas. Despite plans for the UK to recognize a Palestinian state, some relatives of hostages have voiced concerns that such recognition should be postponed until the hostages are freed.
Some 50 of the hostages still have not been released. Last month, Sir Keir announced that the UK Government will formally recognise the State of Palestine in September, unless Israel takes various substantive steps, including agreeing to a ceasefire with Israel.
Protesters waved flags and held placards depicting some of the hostages. Relatives of Israelis taken hostage by Hamas will march on Downing Street.
The demonstration comes a day after Scotland Yard arrested a record 532 people who participated in a protest on Saturday support of the proscribed terrorist group Palestine Action.
Adam Ma'anti, a relative of hostage Tsachi Idan, said Britain's recognition of a Palestinian state should be delayed until the hostages are relieved.
