"Running a congressional campaign across a district as large as WI-03 takes significant financial resources,"
"Despite the incredible support we've received, the path to victory simply isn't there without the level of fundraising required to reach voters."

Laura Benjamin is a transgender former city council member who ran as the Democratic candidate in Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District to challenge three-term Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden. Benjamin suspended her campaign on Friday, citing insufficient fundraising and the logistical challenge of reaching voters across a large district. Days earlier Benjamin ran Facebook fundraising ads that criticized Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk after his Sept. 10 assassination and included donation links. The digital appeals accused Kirk of hateful rhetoric toward the LGBTQ community and criticized Van Orden for blaming Benjamin for violence after her posts.
